What are auxiliary lights?

Auxiliary lighting and fog lights are intended for use as additional lights and are not intended for use as a normal headlight. They are designed to improve visibility during night time driving and severe weather.

Auxiliary driving lights are designed to provide long range illumination forward facing of the vehicle. Auxiliary driving lights are intended to be used with the high beam circuit on the vehicle and are not legally allowed for use without the high beam circuit being on.

Auxiliary lighting also refers to lights that are mounted on the side of the vehicle. These can also be referred to as search lights.

Amber lights on a work Ute can also be referred to as auxiliary lights. You may require amber lights fitted to your vehicle if the vehicle is working close to the road or in car parks.

Can I install driving lights myself?

What vehicle standards do I need to comply with when installing lights to my vehicle?

 

In Australia you must comply with vehicle standards when installing additional lights to a vehicle. These standards are called Australian Design Rules or ADRs.

 

It is best to check your states regulations and ensure your installation is compliant.

 

Do I need a dual battery system to install additional lights?

No, you don’t need a dual battery system to install additional lights to your vehicle. If your intended use for these lights is to use them when the vehicle is off for a prolonged period of time it is recommended that you install a dual battery system to avoid depletion of your vehicle start battery.
